It has been fifty - five zero! - years since the students in the Class of 1956 graduated from Dryden High! The school building was a mixture of old and new - half of the old building had burned during the class's sophomore year, and a new structure had been built in its place. The new elementary wing was opened in September of 1955, and it contained a cafeteria - something the students had done without since the fire. Mr. Ralph Simpson was the new principal of the high school, Mr. Paul Volante was vice principal, and Mr. Robert Campo was the guidance counselor.
Dryden was a "centralized" school district, and students came from several surrounding villages, including Freeville, McLean, and Etna. The class itself was a relatively small one - the yearbook lists 53 graduates, but the members themselves count two additional students as belonging to their class. The class president was Joe Rumsey, class vice president was Jean Randall, class secretary was Judy Carpenter, and class treasurer was Sonnie Fitts. The class advisor was Mr. Edward Bourque. At graduation in June, Everett Rice was the class valedictorian and Barry Werninck was the class salutatorian.
